Early Spyder Wins Major Cup

At the 2014 Cavallino Classic Concorso d’Eleganza, the winner of the Scuderia Ferrari Cup for the Finest Competition Ferrari was the 1948 166 Spyder Corsa, s/n 016 I, from the Collier Collection. In 1948, this 166 Spyder Corsa, driven by Luigi Chinetti, was the first Ferrari to win a major endurance race, the 12 Hours of Montlhéry. Later returning to set 3 FIA speed records as well. In 1949, the 166 SC s/n 016 I was the first Ferrari competition car imported to the US, arriving on June 7th, four days before the Bridgehampton race. In 1950, Briggs Cunningham drove this Spyder Corsa to the first US win for Ferrari, at the Suffolk County Airport Race on May 7th.
