A NEW EVENT...
BY
KEITH BLUEMEL
The finale to the nearly week’s worth of activities this year was the Cavallino Classic’s participation in a new multi-marque Concours, for sporting and racing cars, at the Palm Beach Polo Club on the Sunday – The Palm Beach International Concours d’Elegance. Here there was a dedicated Ferrari parking corral, whilst around twenty five of the most prestigious Ferraris and Maseratis were displayed amongst a fine selection or rare and exotic cars, ranging from a period hot rod entered by Kirk F. White, to a quartet of Cunninghams, the featured marque, to a rare duo from Gerry Sutterfield’s stable, a Muntz Cabriolet with faux snakeskin upholstery and a Ford Thunderbird factory built drag racer, to a beautifully restored “Woody”, to a delightful Cisitalia monoposto, to a pair of Brumos Porsches, a 935 and a 956, with Hurley Haywood in attendance, to name but a few, through to a pair of the latest Rolls Royce Phantom limousines. This new venue proved extremely popular, with close to 2,500 attendees enjoying over 200 special cars, despite a forecast of thunderstorms, which thankfully passed through or around the area without affecting the gathering. Thus, the full program of the Cavallino Classic was run under warm sunshine and predominantly clear blue skies, once again providing pleasant memories for the journey home and beyond. We wish to thank Andrew Carduner and his staff for hosting this new addition to the Classic, and for extending the pleasure we all enjoy from experiencing our special passion for the automobile.
