For those who didn’t want to run their car on the track, there was the more relaxed format of the Tour of Palm Beach on the Thursday afternoon, which wound its way through the elegant avenues and byways over a two hour period. It has become a culinary tour as well, with an extensive luncheon buffet at The Breakers before starting, and then on to desserts and coffee at the SunTrust Bank on the ocean. From there, it was on to several more stops, at Mar-a-Lago and the Chesterfield, where cookies, candies and water were dispensed to tide everyone over. The final stop was for champagne and hors d’oeuvres at the airport party in the evening. We thank everyone at The Breakers, SunTrust, Mar-a-Lago, The Chesterfield, and Jet Aviation for making this tour such a roving feast.
On Friday, there were the morning lectures at The Breakers, with the additional treat of cars for each lecture being outside the hotel. The first lecture was on preservation, and concours preparation, by Pebble Beach and Cavallino Classic Chief Judge, Ed Gilbertson, with a low mileage 365 GTB/4 Daytona serving as the topic of discussion. This was followed by seminars covering the V-8 and Flat-12 models, with three yellow V-8 cars and three red flat-12 examples. This series of lectures was expertly hosted by Rick Race, the President of the Ferrari Club of America, with several experts on the V-8s and flat-12s in attendance to instruct the assembled audience. Much was learned as there is an intense interest in these subjects by many in the Ferrari community. NEXT: JET RECEPTION AND AWARDS & A SURPRISE UNVEILING
