Ferrari 488 GTE Performs in Debut Race at Daytona

In the debut race for the Ferrari 488 GTE, the new racer demonstrated its performance and reliability in North America’s most important endurance race. At the same time, the era of Ferrari’s 458 Italia in North American endurance racing came to a close after amassing twelve victories since its debut in 2011. Among those victories is a 2014 victory at Daytona in the GT-Daytona class, one of many victories for Ferrari on Daytona’s high banks which goes back to the first Daytona Continental in 1962. In that race, a Ferrari 250 GT scored a class victory. The 400 Superamerica chassis 3931 SA was built by Ferrari as the first Series II car with a longer wheelbase and was sent to the Pininfarina works on July 18, 1962. Pininfarina worked on the car for over two months, creating a truly beautiful body, and it was completed on September 29, 1962. This car was quickly taken to London where it was unveiled at the Earls Court Motor Show, with Ferrari also noting that it was then displayed at the Chicago Motor Show. Ferrari 488 GTE Makes World Debut at Daytona

A new chapter in Ferrari’s racing history will be written at this week’s 24 Hours of Daytona, the first round of the 2016 IMSA SportsCar Championship. Three examples of the Ferrari 488 GTE will take to the track at Daytona International Speedway to compete for victory in the GT-LeMans class. The Ferrari 488 GTE is heavily based on Ferrari’s newest road car, the Ferrari 488 GTB. Birthing Pains for the New Ferrari

From Bloomberg Ferrari is casting aside once-rigid limits on how many vehicles it makes a year as the supercar company faces the pressures of independence. After previously capping production at around 7,000 cars a year, Ferrari is considering boosting output beyond its current target of 9,000 in 2019, Chairman Sergio Marchionne said at this week’s Detroit auto show. “We need to get there and try to determine whether the market can handle more than 9,000,” Marchionne said. “The founder of Ferrari in 1947 had a clear view that we produce one car less than the market demands, so, as long as we pay attention on that rule, we’ll be fine.” Ferrari’s willingness to push volume shows the tensions the Italian manufacturer faces as an independent company. In the latest Ferrari 312F1 with its 3-liter V12 motor is the young British driver Jonathan Williams who had been hired by Ferrari to drive its F2 and Dino sports cars. Head Ferrari mechanic Giulio Borsari is standing next to the F1 car wearing the dark shirt. Williams is about to get a taste of F1 performance on the little Aerautodromo rectangular circuit. Still Desirable – a 275 GTB at RM Scottsdale

The 275 GTB offered here, chassis number 07053, was completed by the factory in April of 1965, finished in Bleu Scuro (18942 M) over Nero (VM 8500). Later that month, it was sold to Luigi Chinetti Motors, the official East Coast U.S. importer, as part of a package of three cars. Shortly thereafter, Chinetti Motors had sold the 275 GTB to its first lucky owner, Peter Knoll of New York City, who kept it in Europe for over a year, driving it on New York plates PK 64. It was serviced and maintained at the factory Assistenza Clienti in Modena that May, having been driven 2,201 miles. Although Enzo Ferrari built his reputation upon the success of his sports racing cars, it was the financial success of his road cars that his company relied on for continued success in racing. As the company grew, the two sides of Ferrari were inextricably linked; one could not prosper without the other. With the 166 in 1948, one of Ferrari’s most successful early racers, Ferrari introduced an Inter model, which was a more luxurious version intended for road use rather than on the racetrack. The 212 succeeded the 166 in late 1950 and was produced through 1953. From Bloomberg: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has agreed to buy Italian car designer Pininfarina, wrapping up months of talks on a deal aimed at elevating the Indian vehicle maker’s styling, people familiar with the matter said. The agreement is set to be finalized and announced later today, said the people, who asked not to be identified before a deal is made public. Representatives of Mahindra and Pininfarina weren’t immediately available for comment. Trading of Pininfarina’s shares in Milan were suspended pending an announcement. Fiat Chrysler Shareholders Approve Separation

  From Bloomberg: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV investors approved the spinoff of its supercar unit Ferrari NV, part of Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne’s plan to raise cash and reduce debt. Shareholders voted about 98 percent in favor of the separation, in which Fiat Chrysler will distribute the remaining 80 percent stake in Ferrari to its own investors starting early next year. About two-thirds of Fiat Chrysler’s voting rights were present. The Italian-American carmaker already sold 10 percent of Ferrari in a New York initial public offering in October, raising about $1 billion. From Ferrari N.V.  In Maranello on 30th November 2015, Ferrari N.V. (NYSE:RACE) announced that it has entered into a €2.5 billion syndicated loan facility with a group of ten bookrunner banks. The facility comprises a Bridge Loan and a Term Loan of €2.5 billion in aggregate and a Revolving Credit Facility of €500 million. Proceeds of the Bridge Loan and Term Loan will be used to refinance indebtedness owing to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. and other indebtedness and for other general corporate purposes. Proceeds of the RCF may be used from time to time for general corporate and working capital purposes of the Ferrari group.
