Ferrari Challenge Arrives in Czech Republic
The Ferrari Challenge Europe hits the Czech Republic for the third round of the season, from Friday to Sunday at the Brno circuit.
There are several track tyros ready to fight it out for the Trofeo Pirelli Pro win. Daniele Di Amato is the current leader on 63 points and his main rival should be the Austrian Philipp Baron, just one point behind.
In the Am category of the Trofeo Pirelli, the Argentine Ezequiel Perez Companc, winner of Race 2 in Mugello, heads the classification on 59 points, with a handy 10 point lead over Giacomo Carlo Stratta, followed by Raffaele Giannoni, who after a difficult start in Monza, recovered in Mugello to take his first win of the season to put himself back in the championship race.
The Brno Circuit, known as Masaryk Circuit, in honour of the first president of the country, Tomas Masaryk has long been the setting for the Czech Motorcycle Grand Prix and is 14 kilometres outside Brno.
The track layout begins with a the Frantisek Statny right hander and then immediately comes a left, followed by a 500 metre straight which climbs at first before dropping slightly thus creating a dip. A left-right chicane follows and another straight, a twisty section, known as the Stadion with five turns, three to the right and two to the left, followed by a downhill straight which ends in the right handed Kevin Schwantz turn. Here the track begins to rise getting to a second left-right chicane, followed by another uphill straight which ends in the final Esses, again, left-right. With all these high speed corners and changes of gradient the circuit provides the perfect test for the new EVO package on the 458 Challenge cars, used in this, one of the most famous one-make series in the world.
