Rare NART Spyder Makes an Appearance
At the recent Cavallino Classic, the 275 GTS/4 NART Spyder, s/n 09751, owned by Jon Shirley, was on display in the Ferrari Classiche tent. This yellow example is the second of only ten spyders built, requested by Luigi Chinetti, approved by Ferrari and bodies made by Scaglietti. Surprisingly, they were hard to sell in those days, which ironically only made them rarer and more sought after as time went on. They have been the goal of scores of collectors for many years, their desirability reaching a peak in August with the sale of another NART Spyder for $27m. Mr. Shirley has owned s/n 09751 since 1994, and has no intention of selling, as it is part of his larger collection of select automobiles. This NART Spyder was first owned by Alfred Erwin Goldschmidt, a name that was prominent at the time for the many Ferraris he bought through Luigi Chinetti.
