Fabulous LM with a Fabulous Story
At the recent Cavallino Classic Concorso d’Eleganza, the winner of the Ferrari Classiche Cup for the Finest Certified Ferrari was the 1964 250 LM, s/n 6045, brought from England by Jeremy & James Cottingham of DK Engineering. What makes this Ferrari of interest is the fact that it was crashed once, and pieces of the wreck were used to make two 6045s. Fights and lawsuits went on for years between the two owners, claiming each had enough of the original car to BE the original car, until someone bought both cars and sent them to Cassiche. Classiche had all the original manufacturing records on the car of course and could identify which were the correct parts and which not. They took all the correct parts, put 6045 back together again, and certified it. We will have a full story in an upcoming Cavallino magazine. The car also won the La Coppa per Dodici Cilindri for the Finest 12 cylinder Ferrari, a Best in Class at Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-a-Lago, and finally was the People’s Choice winner at the Jet Reception on Thursday evening.
